View Exceptional Glassware at the National Heisey Glass Museum
The National Heisey Glass Museum is a fascinating attraction located in downtown Newark, Ohio. This museum houses over 4,500 examples of Heisey glassware. A. H. Heisey & Company operated in Newark from 1896 to 1957. Heisey glassware was prized for its exceptional beauty and superior quality, and today it is highly collectible. The Heisey Glass Museum presents a rare opportunity to see a stunning array of Heisey glassware.
The Heisey Glass Museum is housed within a restored and expanded 1831 Greek Revival home. The Samuel D. King residence was saved from demolition and moved to its present location in Veteran’s Park in 1973. The Museum is owned and operated by members of the Heisey Collectors of America. Many of the incredible items on display have been donated or loaned to the museum by HCA members.
There are eight different galleries of glassware to explore in the Heisey Glass Museum. Visitors are treated to an incredible array of Heisey cuttings, etchings and engravings. Very rare experimental pieces that were never put into production are displayed. The variety of patterns and colors featured in Heisey glassware is taken full advantage of in elaborate artistic displays throughout the Museum.
Visitors that are unfamiliar with Heisey glassware as well as expert collectors will enjoy seeing the variety of colored glass items and etchings on display. The full range of Heisey glass colors are represented in items throughout the museum, including rare opaque black, trial blue, gold ruby and rose items. The Orchid, Heisey Rose, Normandie, Pied Piper and other etchings are also featured on items throughout the Museum.
The Heisey Glass Museum includes displays related to the production of the company’s exquisite glassware. Molds, tools, etching plates, samples and factory designs are all exhibited. There is also a library that is available to visiting members of the Heisey Collectors of America. A media center as well as an archives area are also located at the Museum.
Whether you’re a long-time Heisey Glass collector, a novice, or completely new to Heisey glassware, you will enjoy visiting this fascinating museum. Exhibits and displays are designed to not only present Heisey glassware in a beautiful setting, but to educate visitors about Heisey glass, as well. By the end of your tour, you will be familiar with many of the unique features of Heisey Glass including distinct patterns, colors and markings.
There is an excellent Museum Shop located at the Heisey Glass Museum. The Shop features reproductions of some of Heisey’s most popular and beloved glassware items. These re-issues were created from original Heisey molds. Collectors’ books and reference materials are also available at the shop. For visitors that would like to begin or add to their own Heisey Glass collection, there are some original Heisey items for sale, as well.
