Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center – Berlin, Ohio

Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center – Berlin, Ohio

This center is designed to give the visitor an accurate picture of the lifestyle, faith and culture of the Amish, Mennonite and Hetterite peoples.  You will receive a warm welcome when you visit the center.  It is also designed to invite visitors to meet the Christ of the culture of these groups, His uniqueness and claim upon their lives and customs.

A unique educational experience awaits you at the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center.  You will see the history of the Amish, Mennonites and Hetterites on Behalt – one of only four cycloramas in North America.

Behalt is a 10 ft by 265 ft circular mural.  The painted oil-on-canvas cycloralma uses unique artistic techniques of line and color to illustrate multiple stories within a vast timeline.  The name “Behalt” means “to keep, hold, remember”.

These people, known as the “gentle people” and “the quiet in the land” have faced persecution and martyrdom as they try to live their lives in a peaceful manner.  You will be able to have the 30 minute tour of Behalt which will illustrate the history of the Anabaptist movement from it origins in Zurick, Switzerland in 1525 to the present day.  There are tour guides that will answer any questions you may have.

Today the Anabaptist family of believers numbers more than 1.6 million living in 80 countries.  At least 60 percent are in African, Asian, or Latin American areas.

You will be welcomed to the largest Amish settlement in the world.  The beautiful scenery, combined with old-fashioned hospitality, will provide an unforgettable experience that you will treasure for years to come.
